Having trouble? Here are some quick things to try before emailing us.

Make sure you have the latest version of QuickTime

If you see the Quicktime 'Q' logo, but no error message:
Some browser/operating system combinations don't allow the lecture to stream automatically, in this case right-click the 'Q' and choose 'Open this File' from the drop down menu.

If you see a little black screen and an error message:
Error code 401: The server has failed to recognise your request for your lecture as coming from someone who has paid. You need to contact us so we can correct the server.
Error code 453: The server is too busy, or perhaps it has gone offline. Please tell us if this happens.
Error code 454: Your internet connection went offline. You need to check your connection and start the stream again. You'll be able to jump to where you were.
Error code -5420: The server has definitely gone offline this time. Someone's been feeding the server pixies after midnight, and we all know what happens then. Please contact us if this happens so that we can round up the naughty little things and give them a sound telling off before locking them in the attic. While we're doing that the happy server pixies will get everything up and running again without interruptions from their mischievious bretheren.
Error Code 10060;Disconnected: This error code is given if there is an unusually restrictive Firewall. To fix this, you will need to alter the settings in your copy of Quicktime to view content via port 80 instead of port 554. Don't panic: it's easier than it sounds, just follow these directions:

For Windows
1. Launch the Quicktime player. Not within your browser, but the player itself
2. Click the 'Start' then 'All Programs' then 'QuickTime' then 'QuickTime Player'
3. Open the 'Edit' menu, then scroll down to 'Preferences', then 'QuickTime Preferences'.
4. In the new 'QuickTime Settings' dialog box that opens, choose 'Streaming Transport' from the dropdown menu.
5. Select the 'Use this protocol and port ID' button.
6. Select the 'Use HTTP, Port ID' button and make sure 80 is chosen in the area next to it.
7. Close the preference dialog box and quit Quicktime.
8. Close your browser

For Mac OS X
1. Click the 'apple' menu (top left) and open 'System Preferences' from the drop down menu.
2. Click on 'QuickTime' then 'Advanced' from the choices
3. Where it says 'Transport Setup' click on 'Custom...'
4. From the drop down menu, select Transport Protocol 'HTTP' and Port ID '80'
5. Click OK and close System Preferences.

For both, reopen your browser, and you should be able to view the lecture. It will now be streamed through a part of the firewall which is normally always open.

If all this fails, or you have a different error message, click on the contact us panel on the left.
